Character death

Every character in Dragonbane has one life. Every player has one character. When a character dies, much like in our world, the participant’s interaction is finished. Or is it…

Death, like life, is a role to play. Should your character be slain, play the role of the dead. Remain where you are, perhaps have nerve twitches, if appropriate, and in all ways behave as if the animus that gave life to your body has fled. You are to remain in this state, just like a real dead body would, until one of two things happens: you are given a proper burial or dusk descends.

After the funeral rites, in which the customs of the people have been followed, the newly deceased will rise from the grave, their arms crossed upon their chest and walk and into the forest, the gateway for spirits to the land of the dead.

For those fretful spirits that have passed on without the last rites of their culture the waning of the day marks their descent through the paths of the dead. Rising from where they fell these spirits will make their way, arms crossed, to where no living can follow.

Ghosts

During the hours of the night strange lights can oft be seen in the woods; lights with no source that provide no comfort. Giving rise to lurid tales from beyond the grave, however, is a grimmer and somewhat more splendorous sight awaits those who brave the Witching Hour of the night.

Lurid in the shrouds of death, their bodies marked with an unearthly pallor, the ghosts of the once living roam at will. They can be seen walking into a house to sit besides one loved in life. Or sitting at food in a heartbreaking mockery of life. Before long, however, they gather at the edge between Life and Death to sing out their wordless, hoarse song of woe.
