Visitors give good advice (Esa)

Building camp report
Wednesday, August 17th, 2005
Åsen, Sweden

The weather was nice and sunny.

Aleksi, Erno, Essi, Sanni and Sören launched first this morning, they took the Sierra to the building site a little after 9 o'clock. Esa and Antti took the Pajero for a supply run to Älvdalen. Cooking-Antti was
left for kitchen duty.

The building team began working with the elevated floor on long-house #3 and with the trusses. There was a surprise coming: After ten a truck rolled to the building site carrying a load of timber. The cargo was big and it consisted of about 80 pcs. 130x50 boards, great amount (5 packs 60x60x350 cm) small planks and some mixed old timber. Among the old timber there's round wood and different sizes of sawn lumber. This was a very nice surprise. We would really like to know who fixed this one for us. [Editor's note: It was Timo and Elge.]

Esa and Antti bought food stuff, fuel, returned bottles and visited Internet using the connection of the tourist information office. The Pajero was indeed running pretty dry. We were under the impression that the car has a 60 liter tank but it took 65 liters of diesel. Back at Åsen, the supplies were unloaded and the lunch along with Antti were loaded. Antti had rearranged the kitchen.

At the building site there were visitors who soon left. Lunch followed.

After lunch we learned that the generator had started acting up again. We sent Sanni and Erno to take it back to the repair-shop. We either get it back tomorrow or much later, we'll know better tomorrow. Sanni and Erno brought back Erik and went straight back to school to bake.

At the building site we kept on doing trusses. The small generator kept our circle saw running. Five sets of trusses were made as were several pieces. Due to the lack of power we had no pressure-air, so Essi and cooking-Antti made stone stairs for long-house #2. We were visited by another local couple. Sören handled PR as before. We were instructed to keep our gate locked and take our most precious tools away when we were not on site as a precaution against too interested passers-by.

We left the site around 19 o'clock and visited a small, quite old, cabin a couple of kilometers away from the gamesite. The cabin turned out to be nice and worth a look. Too bad it's so far from the game-site and you have to cross some modern areas to reach it.

Notes:
The lack of power is not fatal for our activities, we can still keep making trusses and that's paramount.
