Tired but happy after ceramics workshop (Sanna)

Dragonbane diary
Monday, March 27th, 2006
Rauma, Finland

The ceramics workshop weekend for me started on Friday at noon, when I left home for the busstation in Rauma in a hurry, and missed the bus to Turku. I informed Essi that I will be one hour late. When I got to Turku Esa came to pick me up at the busstation and drove me to Eero Kaarnisto's workshop. Eero introduced us to the place, the tools & the rules and wished us "joy of work". Then we got to work.

I took the job of making pottery using the potter's wheel, simply because we thought that I would be the most talented person to use a potter's wheel, after all, I have studied ceramics for 3 years. On Friday I made some cups from red clay (for the village) that will be useful for both drinking and eating. At 9 pm or something we got something to eat: very nice pea soup (thanks to the chef). After eating we finished up for that day and me, Tanja and Vesa (who was working at another workshop and was nice enough to give us a lift with his beetle several times during that weekend) went to Esa's apartment, and assembled a bunk bed to be used in the healer's house of Cinderhill.

We were tired but not too tired to chat about Dragonbane, larping and the meaning of life until the very late hours of the night. So, after almost 5 hours of sleep we went back to the workshop and had a meeting with Heiko discussing the most important clay items that need to be done.

On Saturday we had quite a nice amount of helpers and we were able to do plenty of different kinds of items. I made among other things the tea set for the temple using white clay, as there are only white dishes at the temple. I really wish that the tea set will be fine after the firing.

Then, after 12 hours of hard work we (me, Tanja, Vesa and two other guys that were working at the Dragonbane workshop) went to sauna. It was really nice to wash all the clay off my skin and relax those sore muscles in the warmth of sauna.

After a relatively good night of sleep it was easier to finish all the remaining work on Sunday, clean the working place and say goodbye to the place and to each other and start the trip home.

I counted that Essi and I worked a total amount of 25 hours that weekend. As I laid down on my bed and closed my eyes on Sunday evening, I still saw the spinning of the clay against my eyelids.
