Fixed generator results in productive day (Esa)
Building camp report
Tuesday August 16th, 2005
Åsen, Sweden
The weather was nice and partly clouded, not too hot, not cold, good working weather.
We left the shorthaired Antti at the school to cook and took the Pajero with the trailer to the building site. Arrived there at 9.30.
Indeed, our generator turned out to be fixed and in working condition. We started shooting the rest of the needed nails on the floorboards of longhouse #4. Another team started doing the elevated floor for longhouse #2. We soon noted that we didn't have enough boards for elevated floors so a team was assigned to saw them. There is little point in mentioning who did what since we were constantly rotating people.
By lunch the floorboards for longhouse #4 were fixed and the team turned its attention to yet missing supports for elevated floors.
Lunch was around 13 o'clock. We brought Antti with the lunch to build.
After lunch Essi and Sanni went to pick cloudberries so Esa replaced Sanni at longlouse #4 and Antti began carrying boards instead of Essi. Once the berry detail came back Esa and Sören started setting up the production of truces. The production of boards for the elevated floors was stopped and the covered circle saw was set up for the large pieces of the truces. The other circle saw was set up for making smaller pieces.
We had a coffee break around 17 o'clock and the crew was re-organised. We stopped working with longhouse #4, and went on doing truces and elevated floors on #2. Aleksi and Erno started preparing for a new kind of stairs for longhouse #3. Esa went off to play with his axe.
We were visited by a nice local couple who had read about us in the paper. They told us about an old style building pretty close to game site, we are planning to pay this place a visit tomorrow after work. They drove a red Volvo. The funny thing about the building is that it sounds that its style is surprisingly close to the style we are looking for with our longhouses.
We left the building site around 19.30.
Notes:
This was a good, productive day. The floor of longhouse #4 is looking much better and the elevated floor on #3 is done to the extent it is possible now. The production of truces has taken its first steps.
Needs:
Pajero needs fuel, I doubt that the sacred spirit is currently pushing it forward. We are also buying generator fuel, foodstuff and maybe pencils. I can't believe this with the pencils, we should have loads of them but you can't find more than couple …
